Successfully Managing Stress

Every one of us faces stress on a daily basis. There is good stress that gets our adrenaline pumping and motivates us to go about our daily lives. There is also bad stress, which surfaces when we become overwhelmed with managing our daily activities which may include trying to juggle many roles at work, home and school. I was recently a guest on The Swan Podcast in which I talk about successfully managing our stress. I have attached the video of the broadcast below.

Some of the key points discussed are:

  • Managing work-life balance
  • Managing stress as it relates to your pride and the image that you want to present to others; knowing what is most important to you and fighting the urge to appear perfect and show no vulnerability
  • Loving Yourself enough to incorporate self-care into your life

Please ensure to have a self-care regimen in place and identify a support system for helping you manage your stress. Fight the urge to be perfect and appear that you have it “all together” at all times. Stress can literally kill you by manifesting into health issues such as stroke or heart attack.

Learn to love yourself the same way you lovingly care for others. Give yourself the same energy you put into your loved ones and your job. You are worth it. You cannot pour from an empty cup. You must make time to rejuvenate your soul. Learn to say No without feeling that you have to provide an explanation. Sometimes you have to take time to relax, relate, release.

Some simple self care tips:

  • Take time for yourself even if its just 10-15 minutes out of the day for positive self talk and affirmations.
  • Meditation
  • Listening to your favorite music
  • Incorporate physical fitness into your routine. It doesn’t have to be strenuous exercise, you can start with something simple like doing jumping jacks or jogging in place during the commercials of your favorite TV show. Most importantly get up and move around do not sit or lay in the same spot all day.
  • Surround yourself with love and positivity, avoid or eliminate people, places and things that cause you unnecessary stress
