It is always great to get away for a few days. You don’t always have to go to some exotic island or faraway land to have fun and enjoy yourself. Atlanta is one of my favorite places to visit and it offers many activities to keep you busy and engaged. Atlanta is a city that has become known for being a great place where black professionals can thrive. Atlanta also has a rich nightlife and is the place where multiple celebrities call home. I entertained the idea of relocating to Atlanta in the 1990’s but ultimately chose to stay in my hometown of St. Louis. However I do enjoy visiting Atlanta when I can and I always enjoy myself. Here I give a quick glimpse into two separate trips that I took to the ATL.
Atlanta offers an opportunity to explore some of our rich cultural heritage with such attractions as the Martin Luther King Jr. National Historical Park. There are multiple buildings to explore here at this site including: The Visitor Center, Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, Freedom Hall and the Birth Home of Martin Luther King Jr. I visited this site in December 2018 on a weekend getaway in which I also attended a great concert at the State Farm Arena.
The park attractions offer a great opportunity to learn information and view exhibits centered around the events of the Civil Rights Movement. It was a little chilly and rainy on the day I visited but I was still able to enjoy the sites. I took a tour of the Birth Home which was led by a tour guide and offered insight into the early life of Dr. King, as well as showcase the house itself. There were no pictures allowed inside of the home.

On a separate visit to ATL in 2021, I was in town to participate in a 10 K race, but also had time to partake in some leisure activities such as visiting The World of Coca Cola Museum where multiple exhibits showcase the history of the Coca Cola Company and also offer a tasting tour.

Atlanta is always a great place for a long weekend or quick getaway whether you are looking for good food, historical landmarks/museums or a fun night out on the town.
