I took a family trip to Montgomery Alabama in the summer of 2021. We were only in town for a couple of days. The primary reason for this trip was to visit the Legacy Museum and Slave Memorial (https://museumandmemorial.eji.org/). I am a huge history buff and welcome any opportunity to learn more about black history. I was interested in visiting this location after watching the initial announcement of the construction and viewing various updates on the news over the course of the time that it took for the museum and monument to be built. It is an amazing testament to the journey of black people in America from slavery to modern times. We visited on a rainy day which impacted the viewing of the outdoor monument but we were still able to enjoy this educational outing.

Freedom Rider Musuem
We also visited the Freedom Rider Museum (https://ahc.alabama.gov/properties/freedomrides/freedomrides.aspx)
This museum chronicles the activities of a group of volunteers known as the Freedom Riders that dedicated themselves to traveling throughout the south and challenging the practices of the segregation during The Civil Rights Movement.

The city of Montgomery, Alabama is rich in history and these two museums pay homage to the struggles and triumphs of our ancestors. I definitely would recommend stopping at both of these locations if you are ever in Montgomery or you may even visit strictly for this purpose which is what we did.
Since this was a short visit I didn’t get to explore much more of the city. We did however get to do a little site seeing and visit the Riverfront. I would love to go back and explore more of the city at another time.
